
Scientific Name: Catoptrophorus semipalmatus
Range: Winters along the coast from Oregon to South America and from North Carolina to mid South America
Habitat: Coastal beaches, estuaries, salt marshes, rocky shores, offshore islands and along lake shores.
Diet: Insects, worms, crabs, mollusks, small fishes and some grasses and tender shoots.
Size: 1- 1.3 ft (30-40 cm) in length; wingspan 2.25 ft (68 cm)
Fun Fact: One of the largest members of the sandpiper family; has distinct black and white stripes under the wings that are only visible when flying.
IUCN Conservation Status: Least concern
