Scientific Name: Ardea alba
Range: Throughout much of Northern, Central and Southern America
Habitat: Mudflats, marshes, ponds, streams, wetlands and lakes
Diet: Small aquatic animals, fish, and frogs
Size: 3-3.5 ft (0.9-1.1 m) in length; wingspan 4.25-4.75 ft (1.3-1.4 m)
Fun Fact: In the late nineteenth century, they were hunted for their plumes and became nearly extinct. This led to some of the first laws to conserve and protect birds.
