Adventures of C. Weed the Snail
Learning comes alive through the wonders of puppets! Your preschoolers will be taken on a wild, undersea adventure and touch LIVE tidepool animals along the way. This interactive class includes an overview of some unique ocean animals and hands-on specimen time your young explorers will be sure to enjoy. NOTE: The C. Weed the Snail program is not available in March, April or May.
At Home in the Sea
Sea turtles, sea stars and jellyfish are just some of the sea animals highlighted in this fun and interactive hands-on class! Your young explorers will dive into an ocean of discovery and touch some strange, slippery, slimy and LIVE ocean creatures that make the tidepools their home.
Greatest Fish Story Ever Told
Fins, gills and scales! Your students will play the role of scientist and examine a real ocean fish and investigate how they move, breathe and survive in their ocean habitats. If available, students will have the amazing opportunity to hatch LIVE baby grunion! (Grunion usually available April-July)
Thar She Blows! Whale of a Lesson
Let’s take an unforgettable journey with the gentle giants of the sea and investigate what makes whales so unique. Your young marine biologists will participate in a whale breathing experiment, listen to whale sounds, view a slide show and watch as a student is transformed into a Pacific Gray Whale!
Treasures in the Tidepools
Our most popular class! Students will investigate the unique adaptations of marine animals living in the pounding surf. Through hands-on discovery, student involvement and interactive games we will explore what makes the tidepool such an incredible habitat.
Our educators will give an engaging ocean-themed talk on some of the most extraordinary animals that live in the sea including octopus, lobsters and sea cucumbers, and students will have the opportunity to touch LIVE marine animals that live along the rocky shore.
Shark! It's OK to Go in the Water
Myth vs. Fact! Learn the facts while we dispel the myths about one of the most misunderstood animals on the planet. Students will participate in a shark-tagging demonstration, examine shark specimens, view a slide show and watch as a classmate is transformed into a Great White! Plus, each pupil will get to take home a fossil shark tooth and complete their own fossil dig.
What's Plankton Anyway
Dive into the science of plankton and watch as a student is transformed into a scuba-diving plankton collector. Through science inquiry, experiments and an up-close encounter with LIVE tidepool animals your students will learn about these amazing life forms which are so important to our own survival.
Ten Arms and an Attitude: A Squid Dissection
Get face to face with some denizens of the deep! Octopus, squid and their close relatives are some of the unusual creatures explored during this in-depth class. Students will learn proper lab procedure while they wrestle with the tentacles of a squid in this interactive, hands-on dissection.
No Guts, No Glory: A Fish Dissection
Even the timid will be transformed into doctors! This hands-on dissection lab provides an excellent introduction to the classification of fish. Students will learn the techniques and tools scientists use to examine the external anatomy and the internal organ functions of an ocean fish.
Fish Printing: Gyotaku in the Classroom
Discover what makes a fish a fish through the ancient art of Gyotaku (fish rubbing). In this engaging class, students will create colorful fish prints and will have fun while discovering the unique background of Gyotaku and the Japanese Hiragana language.
