Striped Shore Crab

Scientific Name: Pachygrapsus crassipes
Range: Vancouver Island to Baja California and in western Pacific of Japan and Korea
Habitat: Variety of habitats including tidepools, mussel beds, estuaries, and rocky shores 
Diet: Scavenges on dead and decaying organisms as well as diatoms and algae
Size: 1-2 in (3-5 cm)
Fun Fact:  This crab forages both in and out of the water and is quite active during the day. An extremely fast species; it has even been reported to catch flies at low tide.
