Mantis Shrimp

Scientific Name: Stomatopoda
Range: South of Point Conception, California to Panama
Habitat: Sandy or muddy substrates
Diet: Mussels, clams, worms, and snails
Size: Up to 12 in (30.5 cm)
Fun Fact: Mantis shrimp live in deep burrows coming out when it's time to feed. They strike prey using a large claw that has been recorded to be one of the fastest movements in the animal kingdom.
