Scientific Name: Mytilus californianus
Range: Southeast Alaska to Baja California
Habitat: Rocky shore; mid-intertidal to subtidal zones
Diet: Plankton and organic detritus
Size: 5-6 in (13-15 cm)
Fun Fact: Use extremely strong byssal threads to attach themselves to rocks and other substrates. These threads are being studied for possible use as surgical sutures.
