Range: Alaska to the Gulf of California
Habitat: Found in shallow, coastal waters on sandy flats, usually near rocky reefs and kelp forests.
Diet: Small fishes and squid
Size: Up to 5 ft (1.5 m)
Fun Fact: This master of camouflage stays buried in the sand waiting for unsuspecting prey to swim by, upon which it lunges from the seafloor, ambushing its prey and swallowing it whole in a fraction of a second.
