Range: Point Conception to southern Baja, California
Habitat: Kelp forests and rocky reefs
Diet: Small fishes, octopus, and some crustaceans
Size: Up to 5 ft (1.5 m)
Fun Fact: Without gill coverings to aid in breathing like many other fish, this eel needs to open and close its mouth in order to breathe.
