Scientific Name: Ardea herodias
Range: Throughout North and Central America
Habitat: Both saltwater and freshwater habitats; open coasts, salt marshes, riverbanks, lakes, grasslands and agricultural fields.
Diet: Primarily marine fishes, but may also feed on invertebrates (such as shrimp, crabs, and insects), rodents and other small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and small birds.
Size: Almost 4.5 ft (1.3 m)
Fun Fact: Even though they are tall in stature, they only weigh about five to six pounds due to their hollow bones.
